APEC Summit 2024
Lima, Peru
The annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum was held in Lima, Peru from 10-16 November 2024. World leaders including U.S. President Joe Biden, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian President Justin Trudeau, Chilean President Gabriel Boric, and a number of others were all in attendance.
Meanwhile in Lima and across Peru, thousands of protestors gathered in the streets to protest domestic issues including Peru’s president Dina Boluarte and corruption in the country’s Congress.
During the APEC summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peruvian President Dina Boluarte inaugurated the new megaport located in Chancay, Peru. The megaport is capable of holding the world’s largest shipping containers and has promised to reshape trade across Peru and Latin America, cementing China’s role as the main trade partner for the continent.
